2,000 Evacuee Families Assisted by PLDT-Smart Foundation

Evacuees in Pulangi, North Cotabato, including the old woman shown above, receive food assistance from the Philippine Business for Social Progress and PLDT-Smart Foundation.

IN response to the humanitarian crisis which affected thousands mostly children evacuees in North Cotabato, PLDT-SMART Foundation launched a relief effort in the towns of Pikit and Aleosan to cushion the negative impact brought by the conflict to civilians in the area.

Relief packs prepared by PLDT-SMART Foundation volunteers in Cotabato City were handed to displaced families in the Municipalities of Pikit and Aleosan, where pre-identified evacuation centers are located.

“This relief mission is an expression of our solidarity and care for those affected by the conflict and it’s our wish that peace would come upon them as they start rebuilding their lives”, Atty. Roger Quevedo, an official from PLDT-SMART Foundation, disclosed.

The humanitarian effort hoped to lighten the burden currently being experienced by the displaced families. At least 2,000 affected families were reached by PLDT-SMART Foundation in this relief mission, which was jointly undertaken in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Kadtuntaya Foundation Inc. (KFI), local government unit and some government agencies.

Although some of the affected residents have started to return home after their occupied villages were cleared, many others chose to stay temporarily at the evacuation centers for fear violence might erupt anew. (Danny Escabarte/PBSP)
