Arbor Day na Ciudad de Zamboanga 2015

In the observance of the Philippine Arbor Day, the city celebrated this annual event through a tree-planting activity spearheaded by the City Government and thus organized by the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) on Thursday, June 25 at Climaco Freedom Park, Sitio Abong-Abong Pasonanca this city.

Among the thousands of participants, Zamboanga- Basilan Integrated Development Alliance joined this wonderful event. A few hikes away from the park seems never-ending and tiring where the seedlings were prepared to be planted, but looking at the magnificent scene overlooking the tall buildings of the east coast part of the city below and the thought of the seedlings growing into strong trees and a way to give back what mother nature has blessed mankind with, made the walk and planting achievable.

About 5,000 tree seedlings (mahogany and narra seedlings) were distributed to the participating institutions that were composed of the academe, students, national and local government offices/agencies, non-government organizations, and security sectors from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and many others.
On that moment, a Mangrove planting activity was also initiated in Barangay Mampang.

Prior to that, there was a tagging of four (4) century-old trees located in different areas in the city as one of the highlights of the activity.
