Barangays informed on Barangay Enterprise Development Planning

On July 20-22, a three-day Barangay Social Enterprise seminar, initiated by ZABIDA with its alliance organizations Reach Out to Others Foundation, Inc. and Katilingban para sa Kalambuan, Inc, participated by each organizations’ partner barangays under the new convenio program.

Nine (9) barangays were able to attend the said workshop that was composed of five (5) per barangay, including the barangay local government units led by the Punong Barangays, brgy. treasurer, brgy. Kagawad, sectoral group representatives such as the women and farmers sectors and others paricipated.

The seminar-workshop first introduced the Understanding the Dynamics of Barangay Economic Development with indicators on the Food Security, ASEAN Integration, and the introduction of One Town, One Product that the Department of Trade and Industry is pushing and thus, presented by Ms. Helen Hamid from the DTI-ZCO.

On the afternoon of the first day, Department of Interior and local Government City Director Mohammad Taha S. Arakama discussed on the Barangay governance for Economic Development, which served as the eye-opening for barangay officials who were present and even the members from different sectoral group on the mandate and participation of each sector to be able to organize a barangay enterprise in their respective barangays.

On the second day of the session, the participants were overwhelmed to know more on the Opportunities and potential partners in the implementation of the barangay enterprise development plan which was conveyed by Ms. Emma Fernandez from the City Government office. The Department of Science and Technology, through Ms. Jennifer Pidor, Department of Labor and Employment, represented by Ms. Sylvia de los Santos and City Agriculturist Diosdado Palacat also shared some information on each of their department in a way to help the communities.

At the latter part, the participants, grouped as their own barangays, were able to identify available products that have the possibility to be identified as OTOP. The third day was the planning stage that the BLGU and sectoral groups made together for the validation and local validation plan.
