Iftar celebration of fellowship in Brgy. Rio Hondo

The community of Campo Muslim in the village of Rio Hondo was once devastated during the infamous Zamboanga Siege in the year 2013. Since then, many of its local residents still did not return to their normal way of living as the remnants of the traumatic experiences are still visible in the area.

As an annual practice, ISP/PAZ commemorates Ramadan with its Muslim community partners through Iftar.

On Saturday, June 10 or in the Islamic calendar the 15 of Ramadan, people gathered at the Islamic Institute of the Philippines located in that community to observe the solemn moment of Iftar or breaking of fast.

Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Al-Hj, the Muslim convener of the group said that, with this solemn occasion, they are joining the entire community of Campo Muslim to offer “healing to its still breaking residents”.

Also present during the momentous occasion were military and police officials, members of the academic institutions, government line agencies, elected government and religious leaders, barangay local government units, peace advocates and other civil society organizations.

For Father Angel C. Calvo, CMF the lead convener of the ISP, this is the time that the community needs a “symbol solidarity” for one another so that peace will prevail. “This is a perfect moment for us to be with one another, to listen and learn with one another”, he said as he gave his solidarity message.  (Albert F.
