Kinaiyahan Housing Project Groundbreaking

Within a year, 80 households will be able to live a descent house, which they can call Home.

On Saturday, November 28, 80 families marked this day as one of the most important event at Barangay Sinunuc. A Groundbreaking ceremony was conducted for the Kinaiyahan Eco-Village Housing project, managed by Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance Inc. (ZABIDA) and Katilingban sa Kalambuan Inc. (KKI) under the Convenio project supported by Spanish agencies, Manos-Unidas and AECID.

In the Celebration of Life’s Graces, the event was divided into three parts.
The Thanksgiving Ritual, which began with a Mass that was conducted by Fr. Angel C. Calvo, CMF and Fr. Nebio Vigano. In solidarity with the thanksgiving, a Moslem prayer conveyed by Ustadz Jamal Mohammad for the Islam while Pastor Rogelio Alfaro gave the Protestant prayer.
An Offering to Life, for the abundance and more blessings, a Pot of life ritual was thereby initiated during the groundbreaking.

Within the program, solidarity messages were given by different personalities.
Ms. Gina Esturco, one of the beneficiaries of the previous housing projects challenged the new communities to keep their commitment, not only on the obligation to pay for the amortizations, but also for the Social Well-being of the each household family member.
Sinunuc Barangay Chairwoman Pilarica Ledesma said that the objective of the Kinaiyahan housing’s objective is not only to provide warmth in the residences, but peace-loving communities. For how many years of partnership with KKI, Ledesma believed that KKI is still on a mission, and she and her barangay is looking forward for more future engagements with the organizations. For the city government’s part, City Councilor Josephine Pareja, who represented the City Mayor, thanked Fr. Calvo for the contribution of the NGOs to help the government in the development of the city.

Pareja reminded the beneficiaries to do their part in helping the community.
In behalf of Manos-Unidas, Carolina Unzeta gave the message recalling that it is about fifteen (15) years that the agency is supporting the housing projects of KKI which already built 600 houses. Unzeta is hoping that this new housing project will be as beautiful as the previous. She also acknowledged the commitments of the communities/beneficiaries.

In his inspiration message, Fr. Calvo, who is also the President of ZABIDA called the day’s ceremony as symbolic. “We are looking for symbols, in our aspirations, our dreams. Many people were able to contribute for our dreams,” he said.
He urged the new communities to dream high, commit and aspire, and learn to demand, ask the government what is their rights. “We should share our dreams with the government, to put the efforts and power working together with the government”.
