PAZ Barangay Culture of Peace Trainings

The Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) announced they already completed the implementation of the Culture of Peace (COP) Training to the Barangays they are working with.

PAZ established partnership with 34 barangays coming from the City’s two districts. “Last September 19 we have just finished the COP training for the community,” happily shared by Robert N. Basco, the Peace Education for Community Based.

Since the start of the Convenio project on 2014, PAZ has been working with the said Barangays in the conduct of the COP training, where they provided basic principles on peace, conflict, conflict resolution and transformation and promoting interreligious dialogue in the community level.

“Participants learned about the six petals of peace and how to use those petals or paths to peace to build a more peaceful community,” Basco said.

PAZ is one of the member consortiums of Zamboanga Basilan Integrated Development Alliance (ZABIDA) who is currently implementing a four years convenio project. Its other members were: Katilingban sa Kalambuan, Inc. (KKI), Reach Out to Others Foundation, Inc. (ROOF) and the Basilan-based Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc. (ROOF).

At the end of every COP training, the participants, who are mostly coming from the different sectoral groups in the Barangay are asking to draft a action plan that would possibly address the concerns of their community.

“(In every training) The participants design strategies and come up with action plans at the end of the day applying these skills in their homes, workplaces, and communities,” Basco elaborated.

The next level of engagement with the Partner-Barangays is the implementation of the Logistical Support drafted in the peace action plan session of the Culture of Peace Training.  (Albert F. Arcilla/Peace Advocates Zamboanga)
