PAZ, ISP Calls For Application for the Young Peace Weaver Awards 2016

Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ), a non-government organization in the City working for peace and development together with the leading interfaith group in the city—Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP) on Wednesday (February 10) had officially announced the calling for application for the Young Peace Weavers Award for the graduating students for the school year 2015-2016.

Annually, PAZ and ISP are searching for graduating students from the different schools, state universities and colleges who had extended extra efforts to promote peace against the culture of war in the respective learning institutions and communities.

However, due to the full implementation of the K+12 curriculum of the Department of Education (DepEd), high school students will not be having their graduation ceremonies this year and therefore, no awardees will be recognized from the secondary level.

“The Young Peace Weavers are known to have shown excellence in leadership, service dedication and commitment to peace in their various priorities, involvement and careers. Thus, we would like to welcome again new set of Young Peace Weavers,” said Rosie France M. Montojo, the Program Coordinator of PAZ.

The guidelines and mechanics for the search for the Young Peace Weavers Award are the following:

1. Demonstrated an outstanding personal record of involvement in projects or activities which are peace-building in nature or contribute to the attainment of peace, harmony and understanding in his/her school and community

2. Performed an outstanding act which directly resulted in the development of promotion of peace, harmony and understanding amongst his/her peers or in his/her school or community

3. By his/her personal behavior or activities have achieved a reputation as a model of friendship, goodwill or communal/social solidarity.

Each universities and colleges are entitled to recommend at least three (3) nominees.

Earlier, as requested by PAZ and ISP, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has released an Endorsement Letter encouraging the active participation of all concerned higher education institutions in the search for Young Peace Weavers Awards 2016.

All nomination documents should be submitted on or before February 19, 2016 and be addressed to the Screening Committee – Young Peace Weaver Awards, Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ), ZABIDA Peace and Development Resource Center, Macrohon Compound, San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City.
