PAZ, ISP Names 15 Young Peaceweaver Awardees This Year

The Search for Young Peace Weavers 2017 panel is composed of Fr. Angel C. Calvo, CMF, President of Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and the lead convener of the
Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP), Prof. Ali T. Yacub, Al-Hj. President of Golden Crescent Consortium of Peace Builders and Affiliates (GCCPBA) and the Muslim Convener of the ISP, Ms. Rosie France M. Montojo, Project Coordinator of PAZ, Dr. Grace J. Rebollos, Vice President of PAZ and Mr. Avelino A. Sulit, Assistant Administrator of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines and a member of the Executive Committee of the ISP.

In their continuous search for young peace advocates in the city, Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and
Interreligious Solidarity for Peace (ISP) had chosen 15 graduating college students to be this year’s recipients of the Young Peace Weaver Award.

The 15 awardees of the prestigious Award will be added to the roster of Young Peace Weaver Awardees
after they had passed the final interview and deliberation held last March 8 at the Zamboanga Basilan Integrated
Development Alliance (ZABIDA) Peace and Development Resource Center, Macrohon Compound, Suterville, San Jose Gusu, this city.

For this year a total of 18 graduating college students from the seven colleges and universities applied for the prestigious Award, but only 15 passed the stringent interview.

The awardees are the following: Almujib S. Sakkam (Western Mindanao State University); Fahmie L Amil (Winzelle International College); Shareen U. Hayudini (Ateneo de Zamboanga University); Ray Vincent M. Tan (Brent Hospital and Colleges Inc.); Loriemin P. Estrada (Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology); Julie Ann B. Edao (Western Mindanao State University); Rosielen P. Alfonso(Western Mindanao State University); Jessa Angela A. Eusebio (Western Mindanao State University); Chelsea Jade C. Manogura (Ateneo de Zamboanga University); Marie Ann Grace O. Samaco (Western Mindanao State University); Renvert C. Balugay (Pilar College); Richelle M. Vicente (Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College); Omiberto P. Pablo Jr. (Western Mindanao State University); Angelo F. Arquiza (Western Mindanao State University); Julius Matthew M. Luzana (Western Mindanao State University).

The awardees receives a Peace Weaver Medallion on their Recognition Day or Graduation Day. For this year there will be no awardees for the secondary students as there will be no graduation this year due to the implementation of the K to 12 programs of the Department of Education (DepEd).

PAZ and ISP are recognizing graduating students every year who had demonstrated an outstanding personal record of involvement in project or activities which are peace-building in nature or contributed to the attainment of peace, harmony and understanding in his/her school and community.
