Rotarians Treat Young and Old With “Greatest Gift Of All”

LAST December 15, the Rotary Club of Zamboanga City – West in cooperation with Skycable conducted the Greatest Gift of All Year 14 at the Astoria Regency Convention Hall at Pasonanca, Zamboanga City.

Over a thousand participants from 27 children’s government, nongovernment and SPED centers converged at the Regency to participate in the grand Christmas Party that the Rotary West sponsors every year for the street children, battered women, elderly and the differently-abled residents of this city.

For the musical chorale competition, the orphans from the St. Francis House emerged as champions while the special clients of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC, who were the perennial winners in the previous years) bowed to second place. The Home for the Elderly capped the third place with their Chavacano musical rendition.

The Zamboanga City High School SPED was awarded as best dancing group followed by Southcom Elementary School as second placer while the Zamboanga East Central School was third placer.

For the singing contest, St. Francis came out as champion while AVRC settled for second place and Home for the Elderly got third place.

This year’s Greatest Gift project was chaired by President Elect Butch Blanco and was witnessed by 3850 District Governor Nominee Edgar Sy of the Rotary Club of Bacolod City. DGN Sy also assisted the Rotarians, Anns and Rotakids in distributing the food and various appliances, gadgets and foodstuff to recipient organizations. The affair was also graced by City Mayor Celso L. Lobregat, Dist. 1 Representative Beng Climaco and the Department of Education’s Norma M. Vecina.

RCZC West President Oscar Zaragoza and Ann President Sheila Zaragoza thanked all the sponsors and the participants for what was seen as a very successful project.
