Enhancing GAD Mainstreaming in Zamboanga and Basilan Communities

Ms. Maisie Faith Dagapioso , Program Coordinator of Katilingban Sa Kalambuan , Inc. facilitated the pre-presentation of the Project Proposal to the body.

In its continuous program support on Participatory Governance, ZABIDA, through its member-organizations in Zamboanga City, Reach-Out ot Others Foundation, Katilingban Sa Kalambuan Inc. and Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc. in Basilan, conducted an Enhancing GAD Mainstreaming session.

For Zamboanga City, around 80 Barangay leaders and members of the Sector Groups were gathered from March 21 to March 22 held at LM Hotel, Tetuan, Zamboanga City. While, about 30 Barangay Leaders and Sectoral Group members from Barangay Townsite of Maluso Municipality and Barangay Matikang of Lantawan Municipality conducted the activity from March 22 to March 23 of this year in Isabela, Basilan.

The main purpose of the activity is to provide technical support to the Partner-Barangays in identifying and prioritizing its GAD Plan implementation and to provide further technical knowledge on Gender and Development as a political concern in their communities.

As a result of their workshop, the participants presented a proposal on a specificied priority GAD activity from their Plan. Both in Zamboanga City and Basilan, the Department of the Interior and Local Government participated as one of the panelists to provided technical guidance in improving and strengthening their proposals.

ZABIDA is currently implementing the Convenio 2 Project in the Philippines, supported by the Spanish Cooperation for International Development Agency (AECID) and Manos Unidas in Spain. The Gender and Development program intervention is part of its Participatory Governance Program. GAD Awareness mainstreaming to Partner-Barangays in Zamboanga City and Basilan

Significant community leaders in the Partner-Barangays of Katilingban Sa Kalambuan Inc. (KKI), Reach-Out to Others Foundation, Inc. (ROOF) in Zamboanga City and Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc. (NFI) in Basilan were brought together last February 1 for ROOF and NFI then on February 2 for KKI to evaluate their knowledge and experience in Gender And Development in their respective Barangays.

Department of Budget and Management Specialist Mr. Mark Martin discussed about the GAD Planning and Budgeting for Barangays. The activity allowed the participants to re-assess their implemented and un-implemented GAD Plans for year 2017.

With the help of facilitators Ms. Maisie Faith Dagapioso and Jurgett Honculado also served as the ZABIDA GAD Program Researcher, the majority of the participants expressed their personal sentiments and misunderstandings on Gender and its effect to Community Development.

ZABIDA, through its GAD Awareness Program and GAD Research, it envisions to further strengthen its approach in addressing GAD concerns and issues to effectively support the GAD Programs of their Partner-Barangays.

ZABIDA is an Non-Government Organization and a consortium of four (4) independent Non-Profit Organizations namely Katilingban Sa Kalambuan Organization, Inc., Reach-Out to Others Foundation, Inc., Peace Advocates Zamboanga Foundation Inc., and Nagdilaab Foundation, Inc., all operating in Zamboanga City and Basilan empowering communities towards human security through Participatory Governance, Peace and Development and Human Rights Advocacy Campaign. The organization implements the Convenio Project within the region through the support of the Spanish Cooperation Agency for International Development (AECID) and the Manos Unidas. DRRM Logistical Support Turn-Over to Barangay Kasanyangan

“Oplan Ilaw” Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Logistical Support implementation and turn over ceremony was held at Asinan Day Care Center, Kasanyangan on January 20, 2018.

Present during the turn over are the different sectoral group member such as Children, Senior Citizen, Women, Youth, Fisherfolks, Indigenous People leader and BLGU Representatives.

OpLan Ilaw was initiated by the Asinan Kasanyangan Homeowners Workers Association (AKHOWA) And supported by the Kasanyangan Barangay council Headed by its Punong Barangay Abdul Aziz Hanapi. AKHOWA President, Mr. Edwin Fernandez received 25sets of firefly street light to be installed within their community. (Sossimo Eyas, Jr./Katilingban Sa Kalambuan Organization).

 

Katilingban Sa Kalambuan Organization, Inc. is a ZABIDA Partner-Organization currently implementing the Convenio Project supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Manos Unidas.
