#ZABIDARelief2017 serve 22,410 individuals affected by Typhoon Paolo

Due to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and Typhoon Paolo (Tropical Cyclone Lan), Zamboanga City experienced heavy rains and very strong winds that caused flooding and tidal surge in vulnerable Barangays in the City from dawn of October 15 to October 20.

 

ZABIDA, as part of the Convenio Project, with the support of the Spanish Cooperation (AECID) and Manos Unidas, conducted a #ZABIDARelief2017 from October 17 to October 30. ZABIDA distributed around 4,449 Food Packs that served around 22,410 individuals from 17 Barangays namely Barangay Ayala, San Jose Gusu, Calarian, Maasin, Talisayan, Patalon, Campo Islam, Mangusu, Licomo, Tictapul, Vitali, Recodo, Tugbungan, and Tetuan.

The Relief Response was made possible with the immediate support of The City Social Welfare and Development Head Office of Zamboanga, the Zamboanga Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, and the Respective Barangay Local Government Unit Officials of the aforementioned Barangays, volunteers from the Tau Gamma Phi – Zamboanga City members, Youth Solidarity for Peace (YSP), Mindanao Youth Development (MYDev), Regional Public Safety Battalion – Region IX, Philippine Coast Guard, Marine Battalion Landing Team 11, 545 Engineering Battalion, Philippine Naval Forces – WestMin, Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, Zamboanga City Police Station 1, Claret School of Zamboanga City, Theo’s Builders, Task Force Zamboanga through the 11th Infantry Battalion, Police Station 9 and 10, Chowtime Restaurant and Private Individuals. Through their unconditional efforts, 4,449 families were able to receive Food Pack.

Youth Peace Camp 2017 in Maluso, Basilan

NAGDILAAB Foundation, Inc., (NFI) as part of its Peace and Security component, gathered 75 youth from its four (4) Peace Education Partner-Schools from October 28-30 of this year at Claret School of Maluso in a Youth Peace Camp 2017.

Participating Partner-Schools were Upper Bato-Bato National High School in Akbar Municipality, Concepcion National High School in Matarling, Lantawan Municipality, Atong-Atong National High School in Atong-Atong, Lantawan Municipality, Tairan National High School in Tairan Lantawan Municipality, and Maluso National High School in Maluso Municipality catering Barangays Upper Portholland, Shipyard Tabuk and Townsite),

According to the Peace Education Coordinator, Mr. Arvin Sarao Debide, “the purpose of the Youth EPeace Camp 2017 is to build and strenghten the awareness of the youth by discussing timely issues on violent extremism, adult reproductive health: premarital sex and teenage pregnancy at the same time inspiring the youth to be more functional and active through the topic Youth Empowerment. (sic)”

NFI is a member-organization of ZABIDA, aims to improve the capability of rural and urban communities to be active partners in development. It will provide technical assistance and complement existing systems in the delivery of basic services. more here: http://www.zabida.org/nfi/

Photo Feature: Facilitator’s Peer-to-Peer Training for the Youth

A Facilitator’s Peer-to-Peer Training with some Youth and Children in Barangay Mariki, Barangay Rio Hondo and Masepla Transitory in Barangay Mampang last October 23. This aims to develop the youth in facilitation through child-friendly learning processes and to capacitating them to form a pool of Trainers that will facilitate local activities. The formation of Youth Trainers will allow them to organize a child-led organization in their respective areas. This is a three part series of learning session, highlighting on the Rights of the Child, Peace-Building and Child Protection in Emergency through interactive and fun-filled activities.
