ZABIDA Launches Sectoral Rights Advocacy Campaign

The Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliances, Inc. (ZABIDA), a consortium of four pro-peace and pro-development organizations launched the Sectoral Advocacy Campaign during the celebration of the International Human Rights Day on Dec. 10.

In the celebration of the 67th International Human Rights Day today, eight (8) Marginalized sectors in Zamboanga city shared their statements on their Identified Priority Rights Issues and Concerns and Committed to Advocate and Promote their respective sectoral rights in journey with the different stakeholders.

The sectors included are the Women, Children, Youth, Farmers and Fisherfolks, Indigenous Peoples, Internally Displaced Persons, Persons With Disabilities and the Informal Settlers. Displayed in this event are the painting outputs of these 8 sectors from the previous workshop planning that they have conducted in connection to the sectors’ advocacies.


This significant event highlights the Signing of Memorandum of Agreement between ZABIDA, Commission on Human Rights IX and DILG-ZCO for Human Rights Advocacy Campaign in Zamboanga City and Basilan for four years under the “Convenio II Project” supported by AECID and Manos Unidas and witnessed by 8 sectors representatives.

The said activity was held in a hotel in the city and was participated by some 150 individuals coming from the government line agencies, Civil Society Organizations, security and academe. Representatives of the eight considered marginalized sectors of Zamboanga City also presented the issues and concerns that are affecting their sectors and called on the different agencies concerned to provide them their basic rights.
