In a continued effort to support the rights and well-being of Sama Bajau children in Zamboanga City, new tables and chairs were recently given to Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) centers in four partner barangays: Kasanyangan, Talon-Talon, Rio Hondo, and Arena Blanco. The remaining two barangays, Calarian and Sinunuc, are set to receive their share of furniture later this month.
This small yet important act is part of a peace initiative called “Promotion of Child Rights of Internally Displaced Ethnic Groups of Sama Bajau in Zamboanga City.” The project is funded by ASMAE Philippines and carried out in partnership with ZABIDA and the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The turnover of furniture was met with smiles and gratitude from ECCD teachers and parents, who are happy to have new furniture to make learning spaces more comfortable and welcoming for the children. For many of these kids, the ECCD centers are not just places to learn—they are safe spaces where they can grow, play, and dream.
This effort is one small, meaningful step toward building a better, more inclusive future for these children—one table, one chair, and one child at a time. This collaboration with barangays, facilitators, teachers, parents, and children truly shows the power of working together for a brighter tomorrow.
