On September 18, 2025, the Building Youth Leadership Implementation of Youth Civic Engagement Action Response took place at the Calarian Barangay Hall, where the focus was on empowering Indigenous youth, particularly from the Sama Bajau community, to step into leadership roles within their communities. The activity highlighted the importance of leadership, education, and human rights, with an emphasis on the Alternative Learning System (ALS). Mr. Teresito Pelayo, an ALS teacher, guided participants through the benefits of this flexible education system, showing them that it’s never too late to pursue education and open new doors for themselves. Mr. Pelayo explained that ALS is a pathway for anyone willing to learn, regardless of age or background. His message of empowerment encouraged everyone to view education as an opportunity for growth and a brighter future. Whether completing high school, pursuing vocational training, or starting a business, ALS offers many possibilities for those ready to begin again. This activity was hosted by Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance, Inc. (ZABIDA), Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ), and ASMAE Philippines, which aims to enhance youth leadership and promote civic engagement among Indigenous People (IP) communities.
