Guided by this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œTransparency and Accountability: Our Hope for Justice and Peace,โ€ the celebration renews the call for honest governance, collective responsibility, and citizen participation as foundations for lasting peace. Organized by the Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) and Interreligous Solidarity for Peace (ISP), in partnership with Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Development Alliance (ZABIDA), and funded by the City Government of Zamboanga. MWOP brings multiple sectors togetherโ€“youth, women, local government units, faith communities, civil society organizations, and peace advocates. Their week-long series of forums, cultural activities, solidarity gatherings, and peace engagements highlights inclusive participation and shared commitment to addressing social injustices that fuel conflict. First launched in 1997 by PAZ and SALAM Foundation as a local peace initiative, the Week of Peace has since grown into a Mindanao-wide and nationally recognized observance, strengthened by successive presidential proclamations that institutionalized it as an annual event. Over the years, MWOP has become a platform for expressing collective aspirations for harmony, healing, and reconciliation, responding to Mindanaoโ€™s long history of conflict, displacement, and marginalization. With the 2025 theme emphasizing transparency and accountability, this yearโ€™s celebration reaffirms that peace must be inseparable from good governance and public trust.
